Abstract

Hypertension Diet Compliance and Elderly Exercise on

Decreasing Blood Pressure in Elderly

Abstract

The problem that is often faced by the elderly is a decrease in various organ functions, the elderly has atherosclerosis, so they are at risk of hypertension. Hypertension in addition to causing a high mortality rate (high case fatality rate) also has an impact on reducing the quality of life. Heredity and lifestyle factors are the main causes of hypertension, symptoms can vary from individual to individual and are almost the same as symptoms of other diseases. Normal blood pressure in the elderly is systolic

130 to 140 mmHg and diastolic 80 to 90 mmHg. The recommended exercise for hypertensive patients

is specific exercise which is carried out in stages and should not be forced, including elderly sports gymnastics which is indicated for hypertensive and elderly sufferers to reduce weight and manage stress (factors that increase hypertension) carried out for 10- 15 minutes. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between health education, adherence to a hypertension diet and elderly exercise on lowering blood pressure in the elderly. The method in this research is observational analytic with cross sectional design. The population in the study were 64 people. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. The number of samples used was 52 respondents. data collection using questionnaires and observation. Analysis of the relationship between health education adherence to a diet with hypertension and elderly exercise using the Chi - Square statistical test. The results of this study indicate that there is a significant relationship between dietary adherence and blood pressure and hypertension exercise with blood pressure with a Ï value or sig.(2-tailed) 0.004. In conclusion, dietary compliance is a way to regulate eating patterns to reduce blood pressure and exercise for the elderly is a physical activity that is able to manage stress (a factor that increases hypertension). Suggestions can be used as references related to adherence to a hypertension diet and exercise for the elderly.
