Abstract

Some people with Down Syndromehave difficulty in gross motor skills, especially in doing basic movements such as walking, galloping, running and jumping.Locomotor games can facilitate the motor skills. Locomotor games activity is very important to stimulate growth and development in people with Down Syndrome. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of activity on gross motor skills in people with Down Syndrome at SLBN Surakarta. This study was a quantitative pre-experimental design of one- group pretest-posttest type. A sample of 10 people was selected by purposive sampling. Data were analyzed by paired t-test.There were positive, and statistically significant effects of intervention locomotor games on gross motor skills in people with Down Syndrome (p = 0.000). Optimization of the gross motor can be facilitated through hopscotch play activities, which are divided into three aspects, (1) locomotor, consisting of two-foot jump and one-foot jump, (2) non-locomotor, ie turning, rotating by changing body position, (3) manipulative, which is throwing gaco in a box.Locomotor games activity affected on Gross Motor Skills in people with Down Syndrome.
