Publications Ethics

Stethoscope is a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Kesehatan (STIKes) Mitra Husada Karanganyar. The journal is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and integrity, in accordance with internationally recognized guidelines such as those established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Every party involved in the publication process—editors, reviewers, authors, and the publisher—is expected to adhere to these principles to ensure that all published work meets the highest ethical and scientific standards.

1. Ethical Standards for Authors

Authors submitting manuscripts to Stethoscope are required to:

  • Originality and Plagiarism: Ensure their work is entirely original. If others’ work or words are used, they must be cited. Submissions with plagiarism, including self-plagiarism, will be rejected.
  • Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication: Do not submit the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously.
  • Authorship of the Paper: List only individuals who made significant contributions as authors.
  • Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Disclose any potential conflicts of interest.
  • Data Accuracy and Retention: Ensure accuracy of data and provide raw data upon request.
  • Ethical Approval and Consent: Obtain ethical approval and informed consent for relevant studies.
  • Acknowledgement of Sources: Properly acknowledge the work of others.

2. Ethical Standards for Editors

Editors are responsible for:

  • Fair Play: Evaluate manuscripts solely on academic merit.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality of all manuscripts.
  • Decision-Making: Decide on publication based on importance, originality, clarity, and relevance.
  • Handling Misconduct: Respond appropriately to ethical complaints.

3. Ethical Standards for Reviewers

Reviewers must:

  • Confidentiality: Treat all manuscripts as confidential.
  • Objectivity: Provide objective and constructive feedback.
  • Acknowledgement of Sources: Identify uncited relevant works and report similarities.
  • Conflict of Interest: Decline review if conflicts of interest exist.

4. Responsibilities of the Publisher

The publisher, STIKes Mitra Husada Karanganyar, works closely with editors to maintain publication integrity, safeguard intellectual property, address ethical concerns, and ensure transparency in the publication process.

5. Policy on Plagiarism and Misconduct

Stethoscope takes publication misconduct seriously. All manuscripts undergo plagiarism screening. If misconduct such as fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism is identified, the editorial board will follow COPE guidelines, which may result in rejection, retraction, or reporting to the authors’ institution.
